Things to do with children
This section is not about dates. These are places and activities that work any day — for the unexpectedly free Saturday, the third straight day of rain, or the visiting grandparents who need entertaining.

Zagreb suits children better than it looks
The city is compact, there is a lot of green, nearly every block has a playground, and distances are such that the park is usually closer than the nearest shopping centre. Fountains and lakes in summer, ice rinks and Advent in winter.
But a few caveats
- Pushchairs and the Upper Town do not mix — cobbles and stairs. Plan for the funicular or a carrier.
- Many museums close on Mondays, and in summer some children's programmes go on holiday along with the city.
- Schedules change. Check opening hours on the venue's own site before setting off — we link to them, but we cannot vouch for other people's timetables.
- Do not worry about language. Museums and play centres almost always have someone with English, and children negotiate with each other without a translator.
Not sure what to pick?
Tell us the ages, how much time you have and what the weather is doing, and we will suggest one specific thing rather than a list of twenty.
