Children's birthdays
A party in a new country is not really about the party. It is about ten separate conversations in a language you do not speak yet: the venue, the entertainer, the cake, the balloons, invitations to the class, allergies, who collects whom. We take that on.
Formats
Chosen for the age, the season and the number of children. These are typical options, not a closed list.
At a play centre
The most reliable option for little ones: a private area, climbing frames and trampolines, a table for food, and the cleaning being someone else's problem. Weather becomes irrelevant, which matters when the birthday falls in November.
In a park
Maksimir, Bundek or your own local park: running games, a treasure hunt, a picnic. Cheaper than a venue and usually more fun. We always agree a wet-weather fallback in advance.
A themed treasure hunt
A story with tasks and a finale: pirates, detectives, space, Harry Potter — whatever the birthday child is into. Indoors or in a park, hosted in the language you choose.
A workshop
Cooking, science, pottery, robotics. Calmer than running around, and good for small groups and for children who find noise and chaos hard.
At a museum or an activity
The Technical Museum, the zoo, a climbing wall, a pool, the ice rink — any of these can anchor the whole party. A strong option for children who have outgrown entertainers.
A thermal water park
A group trip to Terme Tuhelj or Aquae Vivae for the day. Transfer, water, food, cake. Logistically expensive, but remembered for years.
How it works

You give us the basics
The age, how many children you expect, whether parents are staying, the date and a rough budget. Not knowing some of it yet is normal — we work it out as we go.

We come back with two or three options
Venues, programme and an honest budget: what costs what, and where you can save without losing anything. No "we will confirm that later".

We book and negotiate
Venue, host, cake with allergies accounted for, decorations, invitations. All the Croatian correspondence sits with us.

We run the day
We are there: greeting, keeping to time, and handling whatever goes off-plan, because something always does. That day you get to be the birthday child's parent rather than the logistics manager.

We close it out
Clean-up, deposits returned, photographs. If something went wrong, we deal with it, not you.
What helps newcomers most
- Inviting the class. Writing to the parents in Croatian, chasing replies, collecting allergies and working out who collects whom — that is our job.
- Local expectations. What people give as presents here, whether parents stay, how long a party runs, whether guests get party bags — the things every local knows and you do not.
- The cake. Bakers work to order and often only in Croatian. Allergies and intolerances get written down and double-checked.
- A fallback. Rain in May is normal. Every outdoor plan comes with a plan B agreed in advance.
FAQ
What does it cost?
It depends on format, numbers and venue, and the range is wide. After a first conversation we send an itemised budget, and the price does not move afterwards.
What language is the host?
Russian, English or Croatian, whichever suits. For a mixed class we usually bring a bilingual host, which works best.
How far ahead should I book?
Weekend slots at popular venues go three to four weeks out. Weekdays and off-season often need only a week and a half to two weeks.
Can you do only part of it?
Yes. Plenty of people take only the hard bits — venue negotiation and the cake — and run the games themselves. Tell us what you actually want.
What if my child is shy?
Say so in advance. The plan adapts: fewer performances in front of everyone, more shared activity where nobody has to be the centre of attention.
Do you do teenagers?
Yes, but differently — no entertainers. A city treasure hunt, a climbing wall, a private cinema screening, a workshop, a group trip.
